José Blasco

From field to data: opportunities and challenges to AI adoption in agriculture

José Blasco holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Universitat Politècnica de València (2001) and has been a researcher at the Valencian Institute for Agricultural Research (IVIA) since 1996, where he has served as Coordinator of the Agroengineering Centre and held the position of Director of IVIA. His work focuses on applying electronic and computing technologies to field and postharvest inspection, precision agriculture, and agronomic data management. He has participated in over 40 research projects (18 as principal investigator), coordinated multiple collaborations with industry resulting in several patents, and published around 100 indexed papers (Scopus h-index: 48). He is the coordinator of the CIGR Working Group on Image Analysis for Agricultural Products and Processes, member of the panel of the CIGR Section VI on Biosystems Engineering and Member of the Executive Board of the Spanish Society of Agroengineering.
